Curb Appeal
Posted by Vicky
Labels: FamilyLast weekend Bill and I went up to visit our daughter and her family. While we were there, the guys got to go golfing...and we also helped them start the landscaping around their house! It's amazing how little it takes to make your house have a little more curb appeal. They were tired of the overgrown hasta that were taking up their planting areas, and were ready for something more simple and pretty! I think we successfully managed that with the addition of a few more plants and spreading them out a bit! We even had bought enough plants to put a few more around the other sides of their house as well. I can't tell you how nice it looks. It was so easy, affordable...and oh what a difference it has made. This week they even went and got some rock to fill in the areas we planted...that even added more to the "wow factor" when you drive by their house or pull up into the driveway.

Travel

My husband and I love to travel. We feel blessed to have been able to visit many beautiful places and always enjoyed taking our family on a yearly trip. We made such awesome memories that we will cherish for ever. This past winter our office decided to plan a trip on a Continuing Ed Cruise. Most of us were able to attend and bring our spouses. We traveled from Ft Lauderdale Florida to Cozumel Mexico. We traveled with Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. The ship was gigantic and gorgeous. It seemed to have everything. There was miniature golf, an ice skating rink, rock climbing, many pools and hot tubs, several restaurants, a casino, stores, entertainment and more. We were kept quite busy. It was a fun opportunity for all of us to connect outside of the work environment.
Doctors

I have worked in a Dental Office for almost 20 years now. It is a successful busy practice and I have enjoyed working there. We have a pretty close-knit family there. Many of us have been with the practice along time. Recently one of our doctors was turning 65 years old. The staff decided to surprise him when he walked into work that morning. There were streamers, balloons and pictures hung from way back when. We all decided to bring in food of all sorts. We had a great day and the doctor had fun too.
Graduations

It is difficult to believe that four years has past since we have had a child graduate from high school. Boy, time sure does fly, as they say. Our youngest son has been out of college and working for over a year already. Yesterday we attended my nephew Tyler's Graduation Open House. He is the second oldest of four children and the son of my brother Terry. It is fun to watch them grow up and become adults. We had a nice time visiting with family and friends at the Open House. We don't seem to get the opportunity often to get together like that. Congratulations Ty!

I so enjoy the world of blogging. It is fun and interesting to visit different sites. They say that there are over 100,000 new bloggers added daily. WOW! I can't even imagine that many. It is so easy to surf the net and find blogs of every sort. It can be categories on pets, food, careers, technology, sports, business, life/family, products, travel, you name it. There is such a variety of them. I have found A Mom's Balancing Act to be a very interesting blog. For young mothers or mothers of all ages, this site covers a vast selection of topics. Online Shopping

With the craziness of life I am finding less time for my shopping needs. When we do travel to shop it can become quite time consuming. By the time a person drives from location to location, spends time in the store looking for what they are wanting to purchase, you find yourself spending hours away from home. Not to mention the cost of gas for travel. More and more I find myself shopping online for many things. I also enjoy the fact that I can order and have products shipped to friends and loved ones. It saves my having to package up the items and take them to a post office to be delivered. Online shopping is truly the way to go these days.
HGTV

My husband and I find that we don't find a lot of time for TV. If we do sit down and turn it on, we often watch the HGTV. We have enjoyed picking up new ideas for our home by seeing how others decorate theirs. The designers are quite amazing. They can give you ideas of how to improve your home at a fraction of the cost of what you might think. I have recently started to refresh our home. I've been doing some changes and its feeling great! I went out to buy some paint today to help create a new theme in our kitchen. I am going with a vineyard idea. Painting an accent wall and bringing in yellows, greens and burgundies. It is really beginning to appear differently. We have replaced all of the hardware on the cupboards with brushed nickel and installed a new ceiling fan and light figures that are also the brushed nickel. Now with adding some accessories it should transform into a new look for us. That's only the beginning. There are so many small ways to change your home. "Less is More". This I have learned. I found that we have gathered so much stuff over the years. I am removing some of the clutter and updating some of what I display on the walls. It's fun to watch and learn. Check out all that you can learn on HGTV! Labels: Home
Baby Dedication

Labels: Faith, Family, Friends, Grandchildren, Parenting
Yesterday we had the pleasure of attending our grand daughter Kaelyn's baby dedication. In talking with my daughter, we began to discuss the true meaning of a baby’s dedication to the Lord. A baby dedication is not an ordinance of the church, but rather a time for parents to commit themselves to the responsibility of raising their child in the way that they should go. So as she grows older she will become aware and know Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and serve Him. This is a moment when parents stand before God, the church, family and friends and dedicate their child back to the Lord and also receive prayer and support from the church family. So there are three main purposes, it is a time of dedication on the part of the parents to do what they know they should as far as parenting and leading their child to know the Father, to dedicate Kaelyn back to the Lord for his watchful care and a dedication of the congregation to support, encourage, love and for their prayers for her. It is an awesome time and one that I remember doing with our children.
John Deere

Our youngest son Jake has been out of college for about a year now. WOW, time sure does fly. Going back a few years, he started out thinking about going into the field of Tool and Die when he was still attending High School. His senior year was filled with going through the Tool and Die program at a local college near by. He lived at home and finished his two year degree there by the time he was only 19 years old. He then transferred to a University for the following two years, where he got his BA in the field of Manufacture Engineering. The week before he was to graduate, he was hired by John Deere. He started out as a Parts Coordinator. He enjoyed his job and began to learn a lot about what a great company he is working for. He soon was promoted to a Design Engineer position and with in weeks was hired on as a Manufacturing Engineer. It was just what he was hoping to do. He has enjoyed his time at John Deere and finds that they are an awesome employer! He is doing well and is loving life. That is always a great thing for a parent to see and experience.
Just Between Friends

We were recently visiting our oldest son Josh and his wife Diana and baby Emry down in Texas. While we were there Diana was telling me all about this great consignment sale that she and Josh had gone to a couple of times, both in the spring and fall of last year. She said that it was called "Just Between Friends" and how amazing it was. It is a huge consignment type of sale, usually held in a big place. Down where they live it is held in a stadium. We got on line and checked for a location near where my daughter and I live. We found a couple up in the Minneapolis area. This past Saturday my daughter, her husband, my husband and I went up there. It was so great! We decided to go on the second day when almost everything is half price. It was so much fun. We could just grab and put in nice huge handled bags that they had supplied for us. Most items ran between $1.50 - $2.50. You could tell that they took great care in accepting only some of the best clothes, toys, books for children. We are definitely looking forward to going back next fall. Check out their website. See where the closest location might be for you or someone you know. Just Between Friends
