Favorite Supper

Posted by Vicky

Today as I was leaving work a coworker and I were talking about what we were planning for supper. Meatloaf was mentioned and that sounded just so so to me. What I was really hungry for was my favorite meal, meatballs and fried potatoes. I have a great recipe for this meal, but typically Bill doesn't care for it. It is a time consuming meal to prepare and there is quite a lot of clean up also. As I came into the house Bill mentioned that I was too early. When I asked why, he said that supper wasn't ready. I then found out that he was actually making the meal that I was craving. I helped him finish making it and I have to tell you that it was awesome! We have left overs, which might even be better than when it was first made. I really appreciate my husband. He arrives home before I do most days and is so good to start supper. We sure do think alike.

Jon and Kate Plus 8

Posted by Vicky

Have you watched the Jon and Kate plus 8 show? We really enjoy watching it as much as we can. Actually we started to record it on the DVR. The parents seem to be very down to earth and are patient with all of their children. They are a christian family and seem to love the Lord. My husband and I have a set of twins and one younger child but to have eight kids would be very difficult. The show is very family friendly which I appreciate. They show the struggles there are in a large family, but also show the love they have for each other. I would encourage everyone to watch the show and see what it is all about. We are actually watching one tonight that shows the parents answering questions that have been sent to them. It is a fun show and we try to watch all of the episodes.

Golf Channel

Posted by Vicky

Lake Powell National Golf Course, a beautiful course.
If there is one television station that is on more than any other at our house it would have to be the golf channel. It is very common for me to turn one of the TVs and see golf news or actual golf tournaments in progress. Sometimes it is someone giving golf lessons. Lessons are something that I am in desperate need of, some would say. Bill loves golf and enjoys watching it too. He can never seem to get enough of it. Maybe I should learn to appreciate it too. I am trying. I started out golfing twice last summer. I only made it out once this year. I will have to do better.

Bathroom Lighting

Posted by Vicky

We started redoing our bathroom. We began with replacing our vanity, flooring, faucets and more. The bathroom lighting was the next step. First we replaced the lighting above the sink. Now we are looking at replacing the fan/lighting unit next. It should all come together. It will be nice to have it all completed. We have been working at this for months now.

Economic Meltdown

Posted by Vicky

What has caused this? Who is at fault? Is it any one reason? I'm sure that there are going to be a variety of answers to these questions. Why have these large companies loaned to people that were at risk? Do they deserve to be bailed out from their financial problems? I don't know that they are, but if it means that it's the only way to re spark the economy then it may have to be done. Recently when my daughter and her husband were buying a home for the first time, they sat down and looked at what they thought they could afford. Well, in going to the bank, the bank was willing to loan them well above what they knew they could handle. Why is that? Are we setting up our young people for failure or should they take some responsibility for their actions? We all have choices. Thank goodness my kids made the right choice and stayed within their budget. My opinion is that many young people today want it all right away. They want the new house, furnishings, the new cars etc... Then so many of them wonder why they can't make ends meet. In our day, we worked hard and over many years to accumulated what we have now. We lived with very little to begin with and that was ok. I know that there are many problems today. There is not only the failure of these large companies, but job loss, high gas prices and more. What exactly is happening and what are the perfect solutions?
The battle over the bailout continues....

Power Steering Rack

Posted by Vicky

In raising a daughter and two sons we had a mix of opportunities to experience. We sat and watched a variety of activities that our children were involved with. They each also had their own interests. Our daughter was all girl. One son loved his LOUD music. The other son enjoyed cars. He would change, add and improve every car he had. He bought a power steering rack and I didn't even know what that was, but he seemed too. How quickly they learn more then we know.

Food

Posted by Vicky

I love to kick back and relax. I find myself spending a lot of time on the computer. What goes well with relaxing and sitting by your computer? Food of course! As I grow older, it seems as though food has become more important to me. I use it for nutrition and also for comfort. It makes me happy. I don't feel that is necessarily a good thing. Is food to be used for anything other than for a nutritional value? What do you think? Should we concentrate on healthier eating?

Finding the Financial Help You Need

Posted by Vicky

I don't know about you, but I feel every time I turn on the television I am hearing more news about our falling economy and the trouble we're in with the real estate market, the financial market, gas prices...you name it!! There are many people struggling to make it with the economy we're facing today. It's sad to see businesses close and thousands of people losing jobs, on top of the debt that is undoubtedly accruing because people can't make enough money just to make ends meet. I have a feeling that there will be a great need for financial help in the coming year or so.

I feel one of the most important things a person can do who has been affected by the debt that has come along with recent circumstances is seek credit counseling help. I suggest looking into CareOne, which is a great resource that offers access to agencies for debt management. You'll find agencies here that have strict guidelines, electronic payments, 24/7 account accessibility and so many more wonderful things!! Not only is the professional advice of financial experts a great thing to seek, but it's also important to consider consolidating your debt. With debt consolidation loans you're not only making the payment process a lot less complicated, but you're also taking the opportunity to possibly find lower interest rates and a faster way to get your life back on track.

Our economy today is definitely a discouraging situation for many people, but isn't it nice to know that there are people to help and resources you can take advantage of?! I know I'm comforted by this as I know so many people will get the debt help they need. If you or someone you know needs a step in the right direction when it comes to your debt or financial situation....look into CareOne Credit today!

New TV Programming

Posted by Vicky

I can enjoy spending my time watching an occasional TV show. My husband and I don't get hooked on a lot of different shows, but we do like a few of them. We decided that we would watch all of the CSI shows that are now out there. Tonight is CSI Las Vegas. That happens to be our favorite of the three. We have also recently enjoyed watching Cold Case and Without a Trace. We may continue with those shows this Fall as new programing starts. Survivor has been a favorite in the past, so we may give that a try also. We'll have to see how it goes. I tend to not have a lot of time for TV.

Bar Stools

Posted by Vicky

We have started to make a few changes in our kitchen recently. We have painted an accent wall, installed new flooring, tiled the back splash, installed a new faucet and added new hardware to the cupboards. About 9 years ago we totally gutted and redid the entire kitchen. We added bar stools and all new oak cabinets. Kitchens are important since it seems I spend a lot of time in there.

He had never seen such a thing. This aircraft carrier was amazing. It sounded like they enjoyed their trip.

Online Auto Insurance

Posted by Vicky

Over the years we have owned many vehicles. Growing up my family used one particular Insurance Company. That is the company I went with when I was out on my own. As my children grew up we found that auto insurance escalated also. It got to a point where we were looking for a company that could sympathize with having three teenage drivers in the house. It would have been very helpful to have the online auto insurance resources that are out there today. Take advantage of an easy way to compare Insurance Companies.

The Bucket List

Posted by Vicky

Have you seen the movie "The Bucket List" yet? Well, we did and I thought it was pretty good. It made you think about what you might do if you knew you were dieing. I'm not sure that I would spend my time like these men did. I know that most of us have dreams of travel and sites to see, but I don't think that would be on the top of my list. I know that I would want to share Jesus with everyone I came across. I'm guilty of letting the busyness of life take up so much of my time. We're here to fellowship with Him and I often fail in that area. Whether its for a day or for many years to come, I want to put the Lord first.

Web Cam

Posted by Vicky

Bill bought a new web cam online the other day. We haven’t received it in the mail yet but should by next week. The one we have now doesn’t work any more. It was a cheap one that served its purpose but needs to be replaced. The new one is a Microsoft brand. It has a built in microphone and has face tracking ability which apparently means that it follows you as you move. That sounds pretty cool. We were online the other night with Josh, Di and Emry and they could hear us but couldn’t see us because of our camera. It was then that we knew we needed a new one. Their's is built in to the laptop they own and works great. We're looking forward to trying the Microsoft web cam.

Shopping Days

Posted by Vicky

Soon we will be hearing that there are only so many days left to shop for the holidays. It is way too early to hear that don’t you think? I tend to buy during the course of the year but do shop before Christmas also. Sometimes there are those things you find that you really need to buy, because it is the perfect item for a particular person. It might be just a small inexpensive item, but you may not find it later in the year, so you purchase right then. It is pretty unbelievable however, how fast the stores put out the holiday decorations and products. They are anxious to sell I guess.

Sheriff

Posted by Vicky

Soon our county will have a new sheriff. The current one will retire after almost twenty years in the position. He is not going to run again. He said it is time to let someone else hold the office of sheriff. We know both men who are running for sheriff and are remaining pretty much neutral. We do know who we are voting for, but when it comes to talking to others around town, we don’t say much. It can be a difficult thing in a small town. Word travels fast.

Tiling

In the past, we haven't done any of the tile work in our home. Bill has a friend that said it is very simple to do. I know that you need certain tools, which we don’t have. There are some things that are worth paying someone else to do. Tiling, plumbing and carpentry are some of those jobs. People may disagree but that is how I feel. Bill and I have attempted some jobs and they have turned out pretty good but other jobs we leave to the pros. I'm sure in the case of tiling, we will be glad that we did. They started the kitchen today. So far it is looking great! Change can be exciting!

New Clock

Posted by Vicky

I am really into clock for some reason. I even have more then one in a room in some cases. Bill needed a clock in his office so I bought him one. It is a dark cherry wood round framed clock. It looks very nice on the wall in his office space. It blends nicely with the colors that were already there. He had done without a wall clock for two years. He said he uses this one all of the time now. He's not sure how it ever did without it. Sometimes I need to just make suggestions to him to prod him along and then things get done. Like they say, ‘if you want something done, do it yourself ‘. There are times when that is very true.

Many communities of Galveston, TX are now wiped clean from the map as we knew it. Here are just a few of the photos that have been shared. (Photo/David J. Phillip)

Oil Change

Posted by Vicky

Bill was driving the pickup the other day and the change oil light came on. It went off within seconds but the next time he started the engine the light came back on. He checked the owners manual and found that the system can tell when the oil needs to be changed. It doesn’t necessarily depend on the number of miles on the oil, but the oil itself. How old was the oil? I didn’t realize our truck was that smart. I guess Bill needs to change oil. It's nice for all of these new features today. It helps us to stay on top of things in our busy lives. A person can't afford to let a thing like that slide.

I'm not really familiar with what they are going to be doing. I have seen pictures of the finished product and was quite impressed. Things are beginning to shape up around here.

Monster Cookies

Posted by Vicky

I am not sure why, but I have been craving Monster Cookies. Have you ever had them before? They are wonderful! I had received a recipe from a gal and I tried to make them a week ago or so. I'm not sure why, but they didn't turn out. The recipe doesn't call for flour at all and the cookies went flat. So I dug out an old recipe that I had from my mother-in-law. It had the same ingredients, but was a little bit different. Bill tried making them last night and they are awesome!! We had a full container this morning and now it is half full. Who's been eating the cookies? I hate to say....... I am somewhat guilty. Good thing we don't have those around all of the time.

Fireplace

Posted by Vicky

We are having a gas fireplace installed. I am looking forward to spending time by it. I didn't realize all that it entailed to have this done however. We purchased the actual gas fireplace unit and the plumber came out and ran the gas lines for the fireplace. Tonight, our carpenter came and took some measurements and talked to us about details of the hearth and mantle etc... He is such a detailed guy. He creates beautiful pieces. Next the flooring people will have to place the tile and then we can have the gas actually hooked up and the framing placed. We're very excited about it. It is going to add such a nice touch to that space. Not to mention the warmth it will add this winter.

I can smell the aroma in the house. I woke up this morning thinking about what I might put in the crock pot for supper. Welcome Home Stew came to mind. Remote Control Helicopters

There is a group of people that live around him that are out flying them at times. He said that he would like to try and make one himself. We found an old remote control car that he had when he was a kid. He took that home with him, so we'll see what he comes up with. He's great at design. I think he could do it.

CPR

Posted by Vicky

Throughout the years my husband and I have kept up with CPR classes. Our careers call for it and I guess I'm glad that they do. I think it's important for people to be informed. The more of us that are walking around with the knowledge to help others, the better. Over the years the course has changed some. I feel that it has actually become easier to learn and remember. The main objective it to give those breaths and keep those compressions going to circulate blood and oxygen. The numbers do not need to be exact, but close. If you haven't had the chance to take a class, think it over. You may just help save someone close to you someday.

Back Ache

I'm not sure why, but as I grow older I am finding that my back tends to bother me more and more. I can sit in most vehicles for hours without having any pain, but I can't sit through a movie anymore without having to shift my body forward and backwards, without much relief. Certain chairs and couches will bother me more than others do. I'm not sure if it's the support that certain seats give or what exactly. I'm thinking that maybe a chiropractor may be able to help me. It's like there is a weakness in the middle of my back. I also find I have problems if I am on my feet for very long. What is with that? If you have some answers for me, send them my way.

Reading

Posted by Vicky

When my children were young, we enjoyed sitting down in the evenings and reading a book together. It seemed to really stick with our daughter. She was always into reading books. We would buy her different series that she would collect. Now she has a daughter of her own. Kaelyn is only 10 months old, but is already showing great signs that she is going to enjoy reading also. My daughter sent us this video clip and I thought it was so cute. It's amazing how smart they are at such an early age.

Computer Memory

Posted by Vicky

Years ago we purchased our first computer. In doing so, we were not very knowledgeable about what we might need and use. We were told that we could never fill up the space our computer would allow. Well, that was not true. In less then a year our computer memory was full and we were out looking to buy more memory. Since then we have researched and gained a better understanding of what our computer needs are. There are now places you can go to buy memory, so we will never have to be without.

Cell Phones

Posted by Vicky

Remembering back, we purchased and signed up for a cell phone over 10 years ago. Back then it wasn't quite the rave that it is today. We owned one phone and it was quite heavy and bulky. Over the years we slowly added to our plan and soon had a cell phone in the hands of each family member. The phones have advanced and are now convenient to carry. I look back and wonder how we did without them. They become a sense of security when traveling. We can reach everyone within minutes. That is as long as they answer their phone, which can become frustrating at times also. Isn't it something how we become accustomed to everything being fast and quick in our lives? Sometimes I think we need to slow down and relax a bit.

Portable Fans

Posted by Vicky

Our summers here can become very warm and humid. We often have to run the air conditioning and portable fans. We also have ceiling fans in just about every room of the house. As my husband's dad always said, "moving air is cool air". He was right. We enjoy opening up our windows on those occasional mild beautiful days, which are few and far between. My allergies will not always permit doing so, but it sure feels good when we can. I am not complaining that's for sure. I will take the summers over the winters here.

Your DNA Profile

Posted by Vicky

I recently had a friend send me this site. It was interesting to see how closely it came to describing what kind of a person I really am. The results were not 100%, but there were a lot of similarities.
When you click on the link, a series of around 15 pictures will come up. Click on a photo in that category that appeals to you.

Again 15 pictures will come up, click the one for you and move on. Just continue to keep picking.

At the end it will give you a profile of yourself....
It's called a visual DNA.... Your choices dictate your profile.
Click on the tabs on the right to read about yourself.
I thought it was kinda fun to see.
Click in and try it for yourself.

Migraine Headache

Posted by Vicky

I began having headaches at a fairly young age. As I entered my thirties, I found the headaches to increase in number as well as severity. Now in my forties I have been doctoring for migraines. It is a difficult thing to get a handle on. I have tried everything I know how, to decrease the horrible Migraine Headache. I have found certain triggers that I have worked at controlling. It has been a long road and I am always looking for new information. Now there is a website, Medical Minute, where a person can click in and browse information on several different areas finding clinical solutions. Not only are there drug interactions for safer prescribing, but also disease resources to help answer questions you might have. Epocrates, Inc. has developed amazing medical software that is in use by many health care professionals and clinicians. This site is a quick resource for evidence-based content. I only wished I would have had this available to me many years ago. Browse their site for yourself and see if they can assist you.
“This announcement was paid for by Epocrates.”

Sarah Palin

Posted by Vicky

Did any of you catch Sarah Palin's speech at the Republican National Convention last week? It was wonderful! It was obvious that she knows her stuff. She has worked hard for the state of Alaska and plans to do so for the entire country. She seems to be informed on what is needed and what can be done to help our great nation. I was very impressed. I had never heard or seen her before that night. Since then I have begun doing some research about her on my own. It is important to me to find out what kind of person the candidates really are and to learn more about them personally. There was a video out that shared some of her personal testimony and how much she loves Jesus! Not only are her ideas and ambitions for this great country a huge plus, she is also an awesome born again Christian woman that wants God's will for this country. She is a great Governor, woman and mother. I feel she can do the job! Go for it Sarah Palin! We are backing you!

Benefit

Posted by Vicky

There seems to be more and more personal benefits for friends and loved ones being held all the time. It's so sad that there even has to be a need for this. With all of the sickness that we are hearing about there are many families needing support. I thank the good Lord that our family is healthy and we can support others. Today we are going to a benefit for a family friend. He is only in his thirties and fighting colon cancer. He has a wife and three small children. It has become difficult for him to work and the medical bills continue to soar. With all the pressures of life and health upon his shoulders, he needs some support from his family and friends at this strenuous time. A close cousin of his has done most of the leg work for the event and I am hoping it is a successful day for them. It would be very hard to undergo something like he is dealing with. The Lord is there for him and wants to help carry his burden. Our prayers are with him and his family.
