Thinning Hair

Posted by Vicky

Isn't it something how as we get older our hair begins to thin? It is quite maddening. A person begins to get thinner on their head (the place they don't want to be thin) and starts to sprout hair in places that they don't want hair to grow. You begin to think that all you will need is a trimmer and tweezers before you know it. There are healthy tips for healthier looking hair. It can help your hair look more like it did in your 20's. Here they are:
-Eat more salmon. Omega-3 rich foods.
-Be a bran lover. Bran is rich in vitamin B, which may slow hair loss and promote hair growth.
-Say yes to avocados. Avocados and avocado oil may prevent some funky stuff that kills hair follicles.
-Say no to animal fat -- and red meat -- if you’re losing hair.
-Stock up on green tea. Brew a strong pot, cool it, then give your head a rinse to help kill off dandruff-causing fungus.
Eating a diverse diet that is low in calories and high in nutrients can make your RealAge as much as 4 years younger.
I think I should work on this.

Gunsmoke

Posted by Vicky

My husband and I seem to go through phases. We begin watching an older show and get hooked. For quite a while we were watching the old Gunsmoke episodes. Gunsmoke started in 1955 and ended in 1975. Not too many series have lasted that long.It was a good ol' family show. Everyone could sit down together and watch. Some of the most famous that starred on Gunsmoke were Amanda Blake (Miss Kitty), Milburn Stone (Doc Adams), Ken Curtis ( Festus Haggen) and of course James Arness as Matt Dillion (the marshal). Amanda Blake passed away at age 60 in 1989 from complications due to AIDS. Milburn Stone suffered a fatal heart attack in 1980 at 75 yrs old. At 74 Ken Curtis in 1991 died of a heart attack also. James Arness is now 85 and has out lived many of his co-stars. He still enjoys hearing from his followers. If you haven't set down and watched some of these shows, I urge you to do so.

Joel Osteen

Posted by Vicky

I recently heard that Joel Osteen was on Larry King. While on there he was asked, how do we get to heaven? He side-stepped the question and a women called into the show and called him on it. She said, (John Chapter 14)Jesus is the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. The only way to the Father is through Him. That is not a message of condemnation but of truth. Joel agreed with her, but once again side-stepped the woman's comment when asked by Larry again, what about the Jew or the atheist? Joel said, I am not the judge. Only God can judge. My feelings on this are that a man in the position that Joel Osteen is in , should stand boldly for what he believes. Let the people know the truth. That is not judging anyone. It is speaking God's Word. It is then for the people to accept or reject. It is their decision. I believe, as I do think Joel believes, that it is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It is more then just a head knowledge of what Christ has done on the cross, but a heart knowledge and acceptance. Sure it is not by works, lest any man should boast, but with that relationship with Him, comes good works. I want to please the Father. I am not perfect, but am forgiven. I want to do my best to live for Him.

Ephesians 2:3-11:

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Minka Lighting

Posted by Vicky

My husband and I have been putting a lot of time and money into updating our home this past year. We began in the upstairs bathroom replacing the flooring, vanity and lighting. We then moved on to the kitchen where we installed new hardware, flooring, lighting, and some painting. We are finishing up in our family room and are looking into some Minka lighting. They have some beautiful styles that may suit our needs. It's fun to add change to our space.

Halloween Candy

Posted by Vicky

Halloween Candy 2008 May Be Laced with Melamine! The Same Ingredient that Harmed and Killed Tens of Thousands of Pets last year! This is what is now being said by Mike Mozart on You Tube. Full cream milk powder from China has been put into some of the Halloween candy this year. They are saying that the reason for putting the ingredient in the candy is because they believe that the milk powder contains higher levels of protein so it seems to be more nutritious. Actually it's nitrogen not protein. Thousands of chinese children became ill and even died. Target is carrying several of these chocolate products. Be careful to check the labels this Halloween. This may be a threat in today's candies.

Swimwear

Posted by Vicky

One item I need to check out and purchase each year is new swimwear. Unfortunately, the body is continuing to change with age and not necessarily for the good. It makes it difficult to find that perfect swimsuit that I will feel comfortable and good in. Now with beginning to travel south where it's warm in the winter months, I find I am in need of a new suit more often. Thank goodness there are great websites with many choices and styles. It helps make the job a little easier.

Christmas Time

Posted by Vicky

One of my favorite past times is shopping. I enjoy a leisure day to walk the mall and department stores. That doesn't happen to often, but when it does it is quite enjoyable. With Christmas coming quickly, I have begun thinking about what we might purchase for family and friends. It's becoming more difficult to get out and shop, so Bill and I have started to do more online buying. It's so handy and quick. I purchased most of what I wanted for my grandchildren already. Most times the items are delivered swiftly, which is nice. I better keep after it, so I am not so bogged down in December.

Packing

Posted by Vicky

Bill and I went on a business trip for a few days. I can not believe how much packing it takes just to be gone for a short time. We literally had to use the wheeled cart to get our belongings up to our room. As we grow older we find that we feel we need to have our own pillows and even blanket along on trips. Cleanliness is a huge thing to us now. This was a very nice motel. It was actually new so it felt very clean. That was a plus. We also feel that we need to take along goodies, food and drink. Are we going to starve? I doubt it. Anyway, thank goodness it didn't take a lot of effort to put things away when we got back home tonight. We're busy washing the clothes now. It felt great to get away for a few days.

Red Wing

Posted by Vicky

My husband and I enjoy traveling. We would like to do more of it. This week we were able to go on a business trip together. We went to Red Wing. I have never been there before. It's along the Mississippi river. What a perfect time of year for this location. It was quite beautiful, with the change of colors across the high bluffs. Going down into their historic area of town, we found quaint small shops and rustic restaurants. They are known for their pottery and Red Wing boots. There was industry to prove it. It was an enjoyable trip.

Acne Treatment

Posted by Vicky

Through out the years of raising my children we learned just how different God has made each one of us. My daughter loved reading, cheering, teaching and music. My oldest son enjoyed sports of every kind and loud music. My youngest son was into his cars, woodworking, guitars and tool and die. That is just to mention a few of their interests. It is fun to see how each are lead into a different direction. The same holds true of other areas in their lives. When it came to acne treatment, each one also had different needs. Our one son needed a more aggressive approach and has weathered the storm. Isn't life great?

He is my Rock!

Posted by Vicky

I was just reading the scripture:
“My God, my Rock, in Him will I take refuge; my Shield and the Horn of my salvation; my Stronghold and my Refuge, my Savior--You save me from violence. I call on the Lord, Who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies” (II Samuel 22:3-4 AMP).
That is so true! God gives us His Word to teach and instruct. He is faithful and will never change. He will do what He says He will do! His Word endures forever! Whether you are in an unstable marriage or job, dealing with an illness or any other strong hold satan may be trying to put upon you, you can know for certain that God is on your side. He is our rock and our stability! He is the solid ground in which I stand. He says, "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. These scriptures have given me comfort many times throughout my life. We need to claim God's Word over our lives, believe it in our hearts and stand strong knowing we have the victory through Jesus Christ! When you begin to grasp all God has and wants to do for you, His peace and truth strengthens you. I'm so glad He is my Lord and Savior!

Soon we will be celebrating the first birthday of our grand daughter and grand son. They were born just twelve days a part. They are our first grandchildren and such a joy. We feel very blessed. My oldest children are twins, Josh and Jenna. They were married eight days apart and then surprised us with our grand babies so close together also. We will be attending our grand daughters birthday party, but will be unable to attend our grand son's. He is living several states away unfortunately. We are hoping to have them back to the Midwest soon enough.

Getting Debt Consolidation Advice

Posted by Vicky

It's often discouraging to turn on the television and hear how bad our economy has been doing lately. Wouldn't you agree? It's something I hear more and more about with each day that passes! Our government is coming up with all of these plans to help us...but in my opinion it often only seems to help those who are really high up. And when it does help those of us who are being most effected, it's usually the people who haven't been making very good choices with their money. They're being bailed out instead of being given the counseling and advice that they so desperately need.

In my opinion every person, whether you've had a rough time with money or not, should check out MyDebtDonsolidationAdvice.com. What's great about this site is that they offer credit counseling services and the educational materials necessary to get people the help and advice they need regarding debt consolidation. The best part is...it's absolutely FREE! Most sites like this require that you enroll in their debt management plan program...but not this one. You get the help whether you enroll or not. You can't get much better than that. However, I looked it over and I would suggest anyone checkout their plan...it looks like it would be very beneficial to many people. If you're someone who enjoys free educational seminars...they also offer these to the public as well.

As you can see, this is a site that has a variety of options to help people sort through their debt and get on the right track. More than ever I feel it is what so many people need in our world today. If you get a moment, head over and check it out. I don't think you'll be sorry you did.

CSI Las Vegas

Posted by Vicky

CSI is one of the best shows that has come to television in many years. I am hoping that it will continue. They are starting the 9th season this year and I'm sure it will not be disappointing. One of the main characters, Warrick Brown, dies this season and that should definitely take a new turn. Sara Sidle returns, which is a plus in my eyes. Bill and I both love to tune in each week to see what will happen with the cast. The criminalists usually work in sub-teams to investigate the baffling cases which come across their desks in each episode. If you haven't seen the show, give it a try. I think you'll be glad that you did.

SCA kills 325,000 people a year. That is a lot of people. It can occur without any warning and with out quick treatment, the results can be fatal. St. Jude Medical now provides information on warning signs, treatment, risk factors and more. There are individuals that have the Implantable cardioverter defibrillator. You can read and learn more to lesson your risk factors.

Mongolian Restaurant

Posted by Vicky

My husband and I enjoy spending time together. We often will head to the big city for a nice meal. There are so many restaurants out there today, it's hard to choose where we would like to eat. We came across a new one and just love it. The Hu Hot is a Mongolian grill restaurant. They have what they call a food bar. You take a bowl, I like to take two, and you put in the meats, veggies and sauces of choice. Then you get into a line and watch them stir fry your food. It takes very little time and it is prepared specially for you. It is so good! There are getting to be more of them around the area. I hope that one comes to a location nearer to our home.

Tonight while watching television, we decided we needed a little snack. Bill made some buttery microwave popcorn. It was one of those little bags. There was plenty for us two to split. Actually Zoe got a little bit also. She really likes popcorn. She likes many other things too, but since her belly is hanging so close to the ground we are limiting what she can eat. Anyway, we felt like we were at the movies! :) Bill added a few M & M 's to his.

Tiny Deer

A tiny deer was delivered by cesarean section at a wildlife hospital. His mother was killed by a car. They named the deer, Rupert. He is so small he fits into the palm of an adult. He weighed in at just over a pound and was six inches tall. He was brought into this world and they got him breathing. He then spent some time in an incubator on oxygen. It looks as though he is going to make it! The staff are very optimistic that Rupert will make a full recovery. :)

Maritime Lawsuit

Posted by Vicky

Have you heard of the Jones Act? Or maybe you have been involved in a maritime lawsuit. Mark & Associates, P.C. support the Jones Act. This law will support those workers hurt while working on ships, oil rigs and other sea vessels. With the backing of Senator Barack Obama they are hoping for a long time federal law which will compensate these seamen. Obama considers this to be a national security interest and plans to support the Jones Act of 1920. Whether you have heard of this law or that Obama is supporting it, the main thing is that our men are covered if anything should happen to them. I don't remember the last time I didn't have a list of things that I needed to get done. I have been watching some Lifetime movies. Not too seriously though. I have been on the computer at the same time. I do spend a lot of time on here. Anyway, I like many of the Lifetime movies, but some of them are so predictable. That's ok, they are still entertaining.

They travel across the country and are now at work close to where I am living. My daughter and son-in-law have been visiting the site over the past couple of days. It sounds like they have rallied up all of the volunteers that they will need to help out. People come together and work hard for others. It's neat to see it transform. These are a few of the pictures they took while visiting the site. This family and home should be airing sometime around the end of November. It will be fun to see.

Weddings

Posted by Vicky

I had a friend recently email this to me. She said that if she could do it all over again she would do this dance at her wedding. I could see this gal doing this. I thought it was very cute. I would have never been brave enough to do it. I hope you enjoy it. It does look like they had a great time!

Police Gear

Posted by Vicky

My husband has been in law enforcement for many years. Throughout those years he took part in several different areas of enforcement. Each called for a variety of police gear. I remember his first work boots and academy oxfords. The oxfords were a slick and shinny Bates brand. The work boots were a dull black boot from the 5.11 tactical series. They were always very nice footwear. He felt that they were comfortable, took very little to break them in and of a higher quality. Not only that, but they looked sharp besides. They are some of the best brands available. Check out Work Boots USA and see all that they have to offer. These are exceptional brands for diverse types of work. This site also offers free shipping for orders over $50 within the United States. Browse for yourself.

Vice Presidential Debate

Posted by Vicky

So who do you think won the Vice Presidential Debate? Is it Sen. Joe Biden or Gov. Sarah Palin? I thought it was interesting to listen to them. I am so ready to have a person in office that is more down on our level ( we the people). Sarah Palin seems to be that person. She is a much respected Gov. of Alaska and is ready to serve our great nation as Vice President. Joe Biden is your typical politician. I am so tired of listening to politicians. It is refreshing to hear someone speak that sounds like they know right where the American people are coming from. My vote is on Sarah Palin!

Looking For a Good Book??

Posted by Vicky

Between work, keeping up with my home and spending time with my family...I don't get a great deal of time to just take a moment for me. I do my best, but there just aren't enough hours in a day sometimes. What would I do with a little time for me?? I would really love to find a great book to read. I recently heard of one that sparked my interest quite a bit. Anat Ben-Ishai has used a metaphor of the sabra , or a prickly fruit, to describe her life as she lived through a new state of Israel in the 40's and faced other types of conflict, in her book The Prickly Pear. I have always enjoyed reading about history, and a book with first-hand experience of someone who has experienced all types of things...everything from war to independence...I find very intriguing and know it is something that would definitely hold my attention from cover to cover. From what I have read and heard so far, I think it's a book that so many people could relate to and would enjoy. Whether you like reading about love and marriage, terror and fear or even historical elements....this is a book that suits many interests.

If you'd like to learn more about this book, you can visit www.thepricklypear.net and see what you think. You'll find a book about a woman who struggles living in the 20th century and finding a place living in her two worlds. It's very interesting to have someone talking through their triumphs and their struggles and is something I'm sure many would enjoy reading.

Mom and Dad

Posted by Vicky

I'm very thankful to have both of my parents with us. My dad is 81 and my mom is 75. They are both in fairly good health over all. So many today are dealing with illness and unable to care for themselves. I am also thankful, most of all, that my parents brought me up in a christian home where I learned about Jesus and having a "personal" relationship with Him. Not just a head knowledge, but a heart knowledge. To know Him better. Thanks mom and dad.

Employment Screening

Posted by Vicky

Recently there has been a raise in unemployment. With the economy the way it is headed, many have begun losing their jobs. It is a sad thing to see happening. Now with a large number searching for jobs, there is a greater need for employment screening. Many today have criminal records and I think employers have a right to know that information. There are websites where you can gain that knowledge.

Paul Newman

Posted by Vicky

Paul Newman dies at 83 years old. He was a great actor. I have enjoyed watching many of his movies through out the years. Some of my favorites are Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Cool Hand Luke, Message in a Bottle, Towering Inferno to name a few. I think one thing that really stands above the rest, to me, is that he stood by his wife for so many years. He was married to actress Joanne Woodward, and spoke out in favor of monogamy, saying of infidelity: "Why go out for hamburger, when you have steak at home?". It was an attitude that is rarely found among the Hollywood elite. He will be missed.

The 700 Club

Posted by Vicky

Today while spending time on the computer, I decided to turn on The 700 Club. Years ago when my children were young and I was home, I use to tune in and enjoy this program. Once again, they have not disappointed me. It is a show filled with news, great lifetime stories, health tips and more. They are presently celebrating their 47th Anniversary as well. Happy Anniversary CBN (Christian Broadcasting Network)! Keep the great programming coming!
