What an awesome movie!! Fireproof is definitely a movie that everyone should see! It is about relationships. Not only with our loved ones, but also with our Lord. He is the one that will make the difference. We alone are empty. He can fill that void and is waiting and willing to do just that. Watch and see how you too can learn to love and be loved the way the Lord intended for each one of us. He is love...........

Fancy Meal

Posted by Vicky

While Jake was in LA this past week he ate like a king. One of the nights he had swordfish. I have never had swordfish but it sounds wonderful. Jake has always liked seafood and it sounds like he had plenty this past week. He has been on some fantastic trips with his job in the past year. He is hoping to be able to go out of the country soon. So far he has been to Mexico, Chicago and LA. Actually he has been to LA twice in the past couple months. He really enjoys the travel. He is a blessed man.

New Shelves

Posted by Vicky

My daughter and I were talking about what I might do with a bare corner we have in our addition. She was sharing with me what she had seen done on HGTV on episode. Today I bought two new shelves for that corner. I hung them on the wall behind the TV and put pictures on them. The shelves were very easy to hang because the brackets had a built in level. They also had pre-drilled holes in the brackets which made hanging them a cinch. There are times when shelves can be difficult to hang. Sometimes getting them level is quite the project. Not with these shelves though. I think it would be great if all shelves were made like these. I really like the look and I'm glad Jenna shared that.

ONE OF THE BEST STORIES I'VE EVER HEARD!

Posted by Vicky

I received this email from a friend. It really touched my heart. I think it will yours also.
As she stood in front of her 5th grade class on the very first day of school, she told the children an untruth. Like most teachers, she looked at her students and said that she loved them all the same. However, that was impossible, because there in the front row, slumped in his seat, was a little boy named Teddy Stoddard
Mrs. Thompson had watched Teddy the year before and noticed that he did not play well with the other children, that his clothes were messy and that he constantly needed a bath. In addition, Teddy could be unpleasant. It got to the point where Mrs. Thompson would actually take delight in marking his papers with a broad red pen, making bold X's and then putting a big 'F' at the top of his papers.
At the school where Mrs. Thompson taught, she was required to review each child's past records and she put Teddy's off until last. However, w hen she reviewed his file , she was in for a surprise.
Teddy's first grade teacher wrote, 'Teddy is a bright child with a ready laugh. He does his work neatly and has good manners... He is a joy to be around..'
His second grade teacher wrote, 'Teddy is an excellent student, well liked by his classmates, but he is troubled because his mother has a terminal illness and life at home must be a struggle.'
His third grade teacher wrote, 'His mother's death has been hard on him. He tries to do his best, but his father doesn't show much interest, and his home life will soon affect him if some steps aren't taken.'
Teddy's fourth grade teacher wrote, 'Teddy is withdrawn and doesn't show much interest in school. He doesn't have many friends and he sometimes sleeps in class.'
By now, Mrs. Thompson realized the problem and she was ashamed of hersel f. She felt even worse when her students brought her Christmas presents, wrapped in beautiful ribbons and bright paper, except for Teddy's. His present was clumsily wrapped in the heavy, brown paper that he got from a grocery bag. Mrs. Thompson took pains to open it in the middle of the other presents. Some of the children started to laugh when she found a rhinestone bracelet with some of the stones missing, and a bottle that was one-quarter full of perfume. But she stifled the children's laughter when she exclaimed how pretty the bracelet was, putting it on, and dabbing some of the perfume on her wrist. Teddy Stoddard stayed after school that day just long enough to say, 'Mrs. Thompson, today you smelled just like my Mom used to.'
After the children left, she cried for at least an hour. On that very day, she quit teaching reading, writing and arithmetic. Instead, she began to teach children. Mrs. Thompson paid particular attention to Teddy. As she worked with him, his mind seemed to come alive. The more she encouraged him, the faster he responded. By the end of the year, Teddy had become one of the smartest children in the class and, despite her lie that she would love all the children the same, Teddy became one of her 'teacher's pets..'
A year later, she found a note under her door, from Teddy, telling her that she was the best teacher he ever had in his whole life.
Six years went by before she got another note from Teddy. He then wrote that he had finished high school, third in his class, and she was still the best teacher he ever had in life.
Four years after that, she got another letter, saying that while things had been tough at times, he'd stayed in school, had stuck with it, and would soon graduate from college with the highest of honors. He assured Mrs. Thompson that she was still the best and favorite teacher he had ever had in his whole life.
Then four more years passed and yet another letter came. This time he explained that after he got his bachelor's degree, he decided to go a little further. The letter explained that she was still the best and favorite teacher he ever had. But now his name was a little longer.... The letter was signed, Theodore F. Stoddard, MD.
The story does not end there. You see, there was yet another letter that spring. Teddy said he had met this girl and was going to be married He explained that his father had died a couple of years ago and he was wondering if Mrs. Thompson might agree to sit at the wedding in the place that was usually reserved for the mother of the groom. Of course, Mrs. Thompson did. And guess what? She wore that bracelet, the one with several rhinestones missing. Moreover, she made sure she was wearing the perfume that Teddy remembered his mother wearing on their last Christmas together.
They hugged each other, and Dr. Stoddard whispered in Mrs. Thompson's ear, 'Thank you Mrs. Thompson for believing in me. Thank you so much for making me feel important and showing me that I could make a difference.'
Mrs. Thompson, with tears in her eyes, whispered back. She said, 'Teddy, you have it all wrong. You were the one who taught me that I could make a difference. I didn't know how to teach until I met you.'

Black Friday

Posted by Vicky

A few years ago we decided to surge forward and give shopping on Black Friday a try. I have a sister and sister-in-law that have done it for years. Well, needless to say, we are hooked. We always come home with such wonderful deals! The down fall to this experience is that a person must be up and moving quite early in order to catch those awesome prices. I'm not a morning person, but will make the exception on that day. I have already began to receive some of the specials that will be available in a variety of stores. It's looking like another great shopping day is in store.

National Institute of Marriage

Posted by Vicky

My husband and I have been married for almost 30 years. We have personally changed throughout those years and find that we are not the same people we were 30 years ago. In those many years of change we have grown and have learned to support one another. Marriages are an up and down relationship. There are times when everything is going smoothly and seems wonderful and then there are times when, like most people, we have our more challenging moments. With stress hopefully comes patience and understanding. We have found that most times when one of us is down the other is not and can be the support needed at that time. We are not the perfect married couple. I don't know that there is such a thing. Marriage is something that needs time, effort and willingness. It takes two. Now there is the National Institute of Marriage. With the divorce rate climbing to almost 50%, it is definitely an issue that needs addressing. Communication is one of the major concerns. The National Institute focuses on marriage counseling programs. They are providing resources for couples such as books and conferences. They assist people in finding the source of their problems and finding ways to work through them. I feel this site would be a great source for any married couple today. Browse their website and learn more about what they may have to offer you. Below is a Press Release on the site.
Press Release:

With the national divorce rate around 50%, there is no doubt that many marriages run into communication problems at some point. There is a communication epidemic. The National Institute of Marriage has created marriage counseling programs and resources utilizing a structure that is the most powerful format they have found for helping couples who feel stuck and hopeless. They have designed several programs to help couples move past the barriers and experience the marriage of their dreams.
NIM's Intensive Marriage Counseling Programs are unique from weekly marriage counseling in three distinctive ways:

· Intensive Marriage Counseling Format: Committing to an extended amount of concentrated time like the 2 or 4 day Marriage Intensive allows people to get to the root of the problem and stick with it in order to work through it. If you’ve been in traditional marriage counseling before, you may have experienced how you spend the first half catching up from the week before, the second half getting into the real issues, and then the time is gone. The Intensive format is designed so that people have the chance to go deeper without many of the other distractions of daily life and have enough discuss to consider solutions.

· Efficiency: One of the first steps in the process is an extensive assessment with some questionnaires. This allows the therapists to gather background information and can get an idea of the best strategy to proceed before you arrive for your session.

· Marriage Counselors: The counselors at the National Institute of Marriage are specialists in this area. One analogy we like to use is that of the Mayo Clinic: people go to their regular physician but may be sent to a specialist to work with specific areas. The NIM marriage therapists have been trained in this format to maximize its effectiveness. Also, the NIM marriage counseling programs provide the perspectives and insight of two professionals rather than one.
If you are considering divorce, you must try the National Institute of Marriage before giving up. They have developed a continuum of care that meets couples wherever they may be in their relationship. Regardless of the health of their marriage they have a service that can help couples improve their marital satisfaction. Visit their website at http://www.nationalmarriage.com. Read the incredible testimonies from the couples that saved their marriages by attending a Marriage Intensive at the National Institute of Marriage.

Thanksgiving

Posted by Vicky

It's that time of year already. I can hardly believe that Thanksgiving is in less then a week. I have started planning the meal and will go shopping for groceries tomorrow. We will have a smaller crowd this year. Two of my children and families will be able to make it over and we have also invited my parents. It should be a good time. My husband and I decided that we didn't want to have ham or turkey, so we are going to make a couple of roasts. We'll have the mashed potatoes and gravy, veggies, muffins, pumpkin pie and more. We won't be going hungry that's for sure.

Snowmobile Exhaust

Posted by Vicky

Many years ago I knew someone that was into snowmobiling and racing of snowmobiles. It is a cold sport and something that many people enjoy through out the winter months. The snowmobile itself has come a long ways. I can remember riding on the back of one and eating the snowmobile exhaust of another. The clothing attire has also advanced through out the years. No longer does a person have to freeze their fingers. I'm sure it is much more enjoyable today.

He sent me some pictures of where he is staying. It looks beautiful. Wish I could be there. Sounds like the trip is going well.

What you may not know about Porn Filters....

Posted by Vicky

The Internet is a wonderful technology, and one that many of us use everyday for one reason or another. With it though, has come more and more problems as well. It takes responsible people to use the Internet in a way that's beneficial. What am I referring to you ask? Well...one of the biggest concerns many parents have about the Internet is how easily our children can stumble upon sites that are not ok. For instance, pornography sites! This is something that can be found all over the Internet and something parents need to be aware of by use of a porn filter.

A porn filter is a good way to block access to pornography sites...but the bad news is that it's not enough. A porn filter is not the only answer to this growing problem on the web. They are not always able to catch every single adult website and most importantly cannot catch something offline, like CD's or DVD's with adult content on them. That's why we as parents also need to consider using a pornography detection tool like surfrecon along with a porn filter. This will ensure that all the bases are covered. With the two of these working together, you have protection and detection.

If you're looking for Internet safety in your household...protecting and detecting are the two key aspects of going about it! You can learn more at Surfrecon.com if interested.

TV

Posted by Vicky

In the past my husband and I found ourselves to busy to really care about watching TV much. This year we decided to choose a few shows that we might enjoy tuning in each week to see. Now that we have a DVR it is easy to insure recordings. So we are sure to not miss a show. We tend to leisurely watch our programming when it is convenient for each of us. There is always something to choose from now.

Flexible Fuel Vehicles

Posted by Vicky

We are hearing more and more about flexible fuel vehicles or FFVs. These are newer vehicles that are specially designed to run on gasoline or a blend of up to 85% ethanol. This particular blend is called E85. You can find out if your vehicle can use E85 by asking your dealer or by checking the web. It is important not to use E85 if your vehicle is not designed to handle it. E85 had been much cheaper than unleaded or the super unleaded(10%ethanol) but is now about the same price. Until recently we did not have a station that handled the E85 fuel but now we have several.

Addition In The Addition

Posted by Vicky

Recently we added a fireplace to our addition. It is a gas unit that is inset and direct vented. Our plumber did a wonderful job installing it. We had a local cabinet maker construct the hearth and make a custom mantel. The hearth is trimmed in oak and has tile on the top. The mantel is oak with a stain called Early American. We absolutely love the fireplace. It is great on these cold nights to start up the fireplace and take the chill off. There is a remote that came with it which makes it easy to turn on and off. When we built our addition in 1999 we planned that someday we would have a fireplace. Someday has arrived.

A Day At The Beach

Posted by Vicky

Our son is in California for the week on business. The company he works for has sent him several places for training. We talked to him last night as he was sitting on the beach in the eighty degree temperatures. He talked of the white sands and having the beach to himself. He enjoys the travel and different places to eat. There is a co-worker that went with him this trip. I would say he is pretty fortunate to be in a warm climate rather than back here where it is under thirty degrees with high winds.

Ahead of Schedule

Posted by Vicky

I have always been someone that was organized and ahead of schedule. This year is no exception. Actually, I am better off then most years. I'm talking about Christmas and all it brings. I have the "BIG FIVE", I call them. They're shopping, wrapping, baking, the Christmas letter and decorating (the tree etc...). I have gotten a lot of my shopping done, the letter is written and my first cookies (the hardest ones) the cut out frosted cookies are baked and in the freezer. It's a pretty good start I think. I like to have a lot of my baking done by the first week of Dec., so I'll have to stay on that. It's feelin good.

JCPenney

Over the years I have shopped for my clothing in a variety of stores. Within the past few years I have found JCPenney's to be one of my favorite. The quality is there and they supply a vast selection of style. So often when shopping elsewhere I find the quality to be lacking. Also, many are carrying very trendy items that are not really suited for my age range. I'm going to stick with Penneys. Keep up the good work!

Diet Pills

Are you finding yourself counting daily calories or watching carbs, fat and protein? Maybe you find yourself shopping for diet pills, weight loss programs, setting goals and more. It can be an uphill climb to reach that weight goal a person sets for themselves. A day at a time is my motto. Watching your intake and trying to exercise 3 or 4 times a week. It all helps.

With those extra pounds, people find themselves looking for the best diet pills, weight loss programs or just watching what they eat and exercising. I am going to make an effort to decrease my intake if at all possible this holiday season.

Meow

Posted by Vicky

My son Jake recently decided to purchase a kitty. Her name is Mylie and she is very sweet. She can sure get into trouble though. Jake was staying at his sister's for the weekend. He and Mylie were sleeping downstairs. When Jake woke, he couldn't find Mylie. She seemed to have disappeared. They all looked everywhere. In every corner of the basement and throughout the house. She was no where to be found. About 5 hours later and much worry, they found her in amongst many Christmas boxes. She was fine, but very scared. She hadn't made a noise. It was very strange. I have since heard that some cats will purr and moan, but will not meow. Could that be Mylie's problem. Poor little thing.

Appeal to Your Readers with Pictures

Posted by Vicky

I sure enjoy blogging!! It's a great way to take a moment for me out in the midst of the busyness of life. I have fun writing about the things that interest me, as well as the things that are going on in my life. I've often found myself finishing up a post though, and really wishing I had a great picture to include in it. Personally I think pictures on blogs make them far more appealing. Wouldn't you agree?? I enjoy reading and going to blogs when they include pictures in their posts. The only problem with adding pictures that I've ever had is making sure that I can use them. It's difficult to know at times what pictures are licensed and allowable to use and which aren't. That's why I was happy to find and join Acobox.com!

If you're looking for a great way to get quality images for your blogs...Acobox.com is a great place to look. I am very happy I did...and will be sure to pass their site along to fellow bloggers. The Next Best Thing.....

Posted by Vicky

Aren't Grandchildren the best?!! We are blessed to have two of the sweetest and cutest Grandchildren there are!! One of them lives fairly close, while the other lives states away. We wish we could see both of them more, as babies grow so quickly and we miss out on some of the things they are doing. The Internet is a GREAT thing though.....it's really helped us to feel like we're right there with our Grandbabies through the technology of Skype. Have you ever heard of it before? It's a form of communication online where you can chat via small webcams. It's free and works very well! Now we can chat and see our children and their children at the same time. We've sure enjoyed it and I'm so happy that we got started with it. Anyone who wishes they had more time with family or friends should consider using Skype. It's not the same as having them right there with you...but it's really the next best thing.

Shopping

Posted by Vicky

As I have written many times, I enjoy shopping but as we all know it can be a time consuming task. Yesterday my husband and I did some online shopping and got a tremendous amount accomplished towards Christmas. It helped to have him there by my side, assisting in the process. Normally as we shop in stores he is with me, rather following me as I shop. :) We enjoyed our shopping day together and didn't even have to travel to do it. What a neat and convenient way to Christmas shop. Many stores that we like have websites that we can purchase from. It was very handy and I think we may start doing more of it.

Holidays

Posted by Vicky

WOW! Time is sure flying. I am starting to think about all that we will need to accomplish over the next five or six weeks. We have began working on collecting ideas from our children. Today, Bill and I have been working on researching a few of the gift ideas. Boy, the internet sure does come in handy. It saves time and expense. We can either purchase what we want on line or at least fine out where we can go to buy it. It's so handy. I'm also thinking that I may want to begin my first draft of our Christmas letter, this weekend. I usually need to run that by my children before it is complete. Have to make sure all of the facts are correct. Well, back to work.

Posted by Vicky

If you are like many you will find yourself relocating at some point in your lifetime. Years ago, those moving would pack up their car with most of their belongings and head out to their new home. Today, however, we have more belongings that have to be moved so it might mean we need assistance. Families generally have more than one vehicle also. The Race Is Over!

Posted by Vicky

As you know the elections are over. Many people put in hundreds of hours of work to make this process successful. On our local level we had several positions open including county auditor, supervisor and sheriff. In a small community the people running for office are known by most of us who live here. In particular, the sheriff’s race was very close and we know both candidates very well. Less than 100 votes separated the two. The current sheriff is retiring so there were two trying for the job. Both were already members of the department and both ran a great campaign. I am sure there are many different emotions being felt by them and their families. Only one could have the position which meant one would not win the election. I don’t want to say they ‘lost’ because they are both winners as people and not losers.

Who will be the next President?

Posted by Vicky

Who will be the next President? That is the BIG question today. We have all been hearing the campaign for months. Some of us are a little tired of it all. This is an important day for America. This could be a huge turning point and maybe not such a good one for the United States. We will most likely know by morning. I am glad that my trust isn't in men, but in the Lord. He will be the same yesterday, today and forever. He is in control.
