As many of you know, American Idol is one of my favorite shows! I set the DVR and am sure to not miss an airing. Though I love Kris Allen and am very happy for him as the winner of American Idol this past season, Danny Gokey had my #1 vote! He is amazing!! Here he is after the season with Regis and Kelly. He is just so genuine. Labels: TV
Ferrari Parts
Posted by Vicky
My youngest son has been interested in cars for as long as I can remember. When he turned sixteen he started to work on them and enhance them to his satisfaction. Now after many years he has owned several different types of cars. It is not always easy to find that certain part you may need for an exotic car. Now with the internet you can shop for Ferrari parts and more. You will find the exact thing you are needing. Thank goodness for internet shopping.
Coach Ed Thomas
Posted by Vicky

Another senseless killing in our country. This one falls close to home. Athletic director Ed Thomas of Aplington-Parkersburg Iowa, had his life taken from him this morning. How very sad. He was the football coach for AP High School. Thomas just finished his 37th season of coaching with 34 years at Parkersburg. He was a legend and a leader. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Coach Thomas' family.

Book Review: The Wackiest, Wildest, and Weirdest Animals In The World
Posted by Vicky
I recently had the opportunity to review Jungle Jack's The Wackiest, Wildest, and Weirdest Animals in the World book from Thomas Nelson Publishers and I'm so happy that I did! I have quite the collection of books started for my grandkids, and anything about animals is always welcome! My Granddaughter absolutely loves reading about animals. She enjoys saying the names of the animals as we read and says the sound they make as well! I know she'll absolutely love this book!
My favorite part about this book was how big it was and how colorful the pictures were. I guess I had expected it to be a bit smaller....so I was both surprised and thankful when I got it in the mail and realized that it was larger! The pictures are perfect for little ones and the information given on each animal is very interesting as well! I would recommend this book for children of all ages. It's easier to look at with an adult for the younger children though, as the pages are paper...not hard. Overall, I'm very happy with this book and am happy to add it to my collection of books!
Graceland
Posted by Vicky

My Twin sister and her family recently took a trip to Memphis. They toured Graceland and saw many other Elvis sites. It appeared that they have tried to keep Elvis' home the same as it was when he passed away. They were not allowed to go up stairs. Only two special people are ever allowed up there. The room Elvis was found in is up there. I think it would be a fun trip to take. We'll have to do that sometime.

Here Little Piggy!
Posted by Vicky
Labels: Family
Our grand daughter Kaelyn went out to the farm this weekend. Her grandpa raises pigs. She was able to meet her first little piggy. It looked like she had a pretty good time playing out there. I remember as a child thinking it was so much fun to visit the farm and then we moved to one. There are things to experience that you can never find in town. I'm glad Kaelyn has the chance to do that.
Auto Insurance Quotes
Posted by Vicky
In raising a family we found there to be stages of life. With three children, through out the teen years we saw a rise in our car insurance premiums. We searched for what we thought was the best deal for insurance costs. Now it is so much easier. The internet allows you the access to a variety of auto insurance quotes. You can quickly find what you are looking for. I sure wish we would have had that available to us in those past years. Labels: Insurance
Vacation
Posted by Vicky
WOW! We had such a nice trip! We traveled to Philly and stayed for 9 days. While there we took the train into NYC. We had never been there before. We set up a tour that took us all over the city. We also went out on the Staten Island Ferry to view the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. We saw so much! Then we spent a couple of days down in Washington DC. We drove down so also stopped in Baltimore Maryland by the pier. While in DC we walked and toured the Capitol and the Washington Monument. We happened to be there on the day of the Holocaust Museum shooting also. That was sure sad. Spending some days in Philly we saw Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. That is quite the city! Our son Josh also graduated with his Masters from Drexel University while we were there! What fun we had!!
Shopping Online
Posted by Vicky
Shopping online has become something that I enjoy doing very much. It's convenient, easy and fun too. Now that I do it...I can't imagine not having the option. One site I came across is Allegro Medical and I have to say...this could be a site I visit more often. I was very impressed with the variety of products they carry. Everything from exercise and fitness equipment and nutritional dietary supplements, to maternity and baby supplies and outdoor gear. Whether it's a breastfeeding pillow you're looking for or even a walking canes...they have it all! I appreciated their user friendly site and look forward to visiting again.
New York City
Posted by Vicky
We had never been to New York City before, so having the opportunity to do go there this week was great. It was neat to see all of the buildings and places that you read and hear so much about on television. We took a lot of pictures...this is just one of them of myself, Jake and Bill! We only spent the day there, but we had the chance to see so much. It was great. I know my daughter would love to go there one day. It's a very busy place, but one everyone should visit at least once I think.
Shooting in DC

Labels: Travel
We've been having a wonderful time on our vacation...it will be sad to leave in just a couple of days. Yesterday was probably the most eventful...and scary day. We were headed down to Washington D.C. and I got a call from my daughter. She told me that she had saw on the news that there was a shooting at the Holocaust museum. Pretty scary. As we arrived we saw all the camera crews and lots of policemen. I was saddened to know that someone's life was taken in that building just minutes before we arrived. It angers me that there are people out there who don't think twice about taking another life.
I Love Jewelry
Posted by Vicky
I'm the type of woman who really enjoys jewelry. I like having a variety to choose from, even if it's designer jewelry. Holsted Jewelers is a company I came across recently and I have to say I was quite impressed with the selection of jewelry, gifts and accessories that they offer. All of it seemed to be high-quality and from what I read, it seems this is a company that puts their customers first! That would explain the millions of satisfied customers they have I guess! In looking around I think my favorite items were the costume jewelry rings. I wasn't sure what I'd think about rings like this, but their variety was very nice. I'm hoping to have more time to browse their website and find more things that I like. At prices like this, I can't help but want to purchase their fashionable jewelry.
Talkitive Toddler
Posted by Vicky
Our granddaughter is quite the talker. Even before she was one she was trying to put together sentences. Now...at almost 19 months she is talking clearly and it's fun to have real conversations with her. My daughter said one of her newest words that she adds to the sentences she is saying is "please" or "peas" as it sounds when she says it. Isn't that adorable?! A 19 month old who already has manners....way to go Kaelyn! I'm excited to see her again and hear her say some of the new things she's been saying. What a sweetie! I love my Grandchildren!
Beautiful Weather
Posted by Vicky
From the sounds of it, we are missing out on a lot of rain back home. That's ok with me...as the weather here has been absolutely beautiful. I am happy about that as much of what we are doing is outside. It would be pretty miserable if it was cold or raining out. We have a couple of days left of our vacation and I'm hoping this good weather streak continues. It may be wishful thinking, but I am also hoping that the weather is warmer by the time return home too. We'll have to see on that...so far summer has been pretty cool there.
Baby Gifts
Posted by Vicky
Grandchildren are the best! We have two and can't get enough. We're very excited and feel very blessed that we have two more on the way, both due around the same time (November/December). I can't wait!! I've already been talking with the girls about the things they think they might need with a second baby. I'm looking to buy baby gifts that they can use, but also something creative and unique. I came across Babynest.com and it offers just that....affordable, creative and adorable baby gifts for those little bundles of joy! They even have personalized gifts which is what I'm most interested in. It's definitely a site to check out if you have a personalized baby gifts to buy!
Dogsitting Zoe
Posted by Vicky

I talked with my daughter yesterday...it sounds like Zoe is doing well at their house. I'm so glad that they love her like we do and that she has such a nice home to go to while we're gone. I know there's always the kennel while we're gone, but it's much nicer to take her to family who can watch her. She's the type of dog that keeps to herself most of the time and sleeps away the day. Our granddaughter Kaelyn loves having her there and wants to play with her all the time. Zoe isn't too sure about that, but is pretty patient with her. I'm happy about that!
Our Grandson Emry
Posted by Vicky

Emry is going to be 19 months old in just a couple of days. Thankfully we've had the chance to spend the week with him which has been great. He's such a sweetie! They live in Texas which means we don't get to see them nearly as often as we would like....so having this time with them all has been great. Emry is such an outgoing little guy and is at such a fun age. We've had fun taking him to the park and other site seeing places in Philly and Washington D.C. I can't wait for them to move closer....only two more weeks!
Planning a Wedding
Posted by Vicky
Planning a wedding can be such a fun time...but I know from experience that it can also be quite a stressful time. It's a bit overwhelming putting all the details together, especially when it comes to find the best price and where to buy the things you need. When I was helping my daughter plan her wedding I wish we had known about The Knot Wedding Shop. From what I understand they offer a variety of wedding supplies that are high quality and unique. We could have found things like wedding cameras, ring pillows, wedding favors, attendant gifts, cake toppers and more! I really like the idea of having personalized gifts and they offer that as well. When it's time for my youngest son to get married I may suggest he take a look at this site, I really think it could help relieve some of the stress that goes along with planning.
100 Bible Stories, 100 Bible Songs Review
Posted by Vicky
As Bill and I raised our children it was always very important that we shared God's Word with them! Although we had some things to help them understand, and to help instill these values and beliefs into their lives at a young age....we didn't have near the options that parents do today! I'm so thankful that my kids who are parents have a variety of products to choose from. Whether it be books, CDs, DVDs, or something else. As a Grandparent I think it's equally important that I make sure and have opportunities available to help my Grandchildren learn more about the Lord. That's why I was absolutely thrilled to have the chance to review a copy of 100 Bible Stories, 100 Bible Songs from Thomas Nelson Publishers!!
Just in reading a short summary of this Bible Storybook...I knew that it would be a perfect addition to the other things I have for my Grandchildren. When I got it I must say the book far exceeded my expectations!! Not only did it offer the Bible stories I had hoped for....but the quality and kid-friendliness of it was amazing! I knew it would be great, but had no idea it would be this wonderful! Along with 100 Bible Stories, written in a way that kids will understand, there are also two CD's which include 100 Bible Songs that correlate with the stories! How great is that?! My Grandkids love to be read to, and they love music....this is the perfect thing for my household!
I liked many things about 100 Bible Stories, 100 Bible Songs....but the best part about it was the kid-friendly way it introduces children to the Bible. It's done in a very meaningful way that allows for understanding and life application. Along with a short story, there is a one-sentence summary as well as the name of the song that goes along with it. The illustrations are beautiful and would catch any young child's eye! I am very excited to use this with my Grandchildren! They are only one....and although the publisher suggests for it to be used with children ages 4-8...I think it's perfect for young toddlers as well! If you're wanting to check it out, don't hesitate!
AED
Posted by Vicky
In mine and my husbands careers we need to keep up on our CPR for the protection and help of others. Over the years we have found that they have changed the way that things are done. The AED
(Automated External Defibrillator) has been added to the series of events. In many cases it can be a life saver. It is important that we all do our part to help in an emergency.

Our grandchildren are the best!! They are so fun to watch and interact with. It seems to take a lot to wear them out, but eventually they do get tired. :)
ipods
Posted by Vicky
Years ago when I would go out walking I would take along my disk man or cassette player. They were kinda bulky and the music might skip or jump some, but at least I had something to listen too while exercising. Today they have awesome ipods that are so compact and lite weight. They are clear to hear and hold a variety of songs. Times sure have changed. Labels: Technology

While out shopping recently we found the cutest little "Cars" backpack for our grandson. They are going to be doing some flying in the near future and thought it might come in handy for him. Looks like he is enjoying it already!
